Violin 1 and piano. The pieces have various tonalities and styles.
Students enjoy practicing and performing. Basic beginning techniques
are reinforced. Students enjoy effects like glissandi, pizzicato and
tremolos to add new dimensions to their playing.

 
HOPSCOTCH

Hopscotch is a rhythmic joy with bouncing bows to accent the off-beats. The tune is step-wise and easily accessible to young players.

Fiddle Diddle is a great tool for teaching crossing strings. The violin part crosses from an open string to fingers on the other. The repetition is a great practice venue.

Rockin’ Together is a extremely simple string piece using one finger on “D” and “A” strings in a repeated pattern. Great for a first concert.

Noteworthy! is a rhythmic practice with a pattern of repeated eighth and sixteenth notes. The students enjoy the fast pace.

Rockin’ Along has a very simple three note tune in quarter and half notes. The piano underscores the rock feel and there are optional parts for open strings and percussion

Fiddlin’ Tune is reminiscent of a barn dance or hoedown. It has sixteenth notes but on a repeated note to cement the fingers playing a bright piece in the key of “D”.

Folk Dance for strings

Folk Dance has a driving piano rhythm which makes the strings sound like they are playing faster. With repeated notes and repeated patterns, this piece is easy to teach and fun to play. An open-string violin part is provided as well as a cello melody part giving you the choice to challenge you students accordingly. I have used this piece on my first concerts.

Music in the Style of Telemann

Music in the Style of Telemann has full measures of repeated eighth notes on one note . Students feel the drive of the Baroque period and feel worthy of performing for an audience. Such a departure from the usual quarter and half notes in “D” major tonality with the piano providing the serious minor mode. The students are so exciting to play a tremolo. An optional open string part is included but this piece can be played with just violin 1 and piano.

Basic Basie

Basic Basie is based on the walking blues chord sequence but with simple rhythms in the strings. There is a simple interplay between the strings and piano to cement the jazz style.

Serenade begins with pizzicato to introduce a half-note melody that crosses strings but returns with one finger creating a great practice pattern. It is in a minor mode with an unusual atmosphere.
